How to troubleshoot Remote Play issues

Find out how to resolve issues with Remote Play on PC, Mac, mobile devices and Android TV.

Check your Remote Play setup 

  • Keep your console connected to the internet while turned on or in rest mode.
  • Sign in to the same account on your console and Remote Play device.
  • You must activate your PS4 console as the primary console in order to use Remote Play.
  • Some games don't support Remote Play.
    Games that require devices such as PlayStation®VR2, PlayStation®VR or PlayStation®Camera, aren’t compatible with Remote Play.
  • When you're using a wireless controller with Remote Play, some of the controller's features may be restricted.

You can’t use the following functions at the same time as Remote Play:

  • Share Play
  • Streaming games from PlayStation®Plus Premium*
    *PlayStation Plus features and services vary depending on your country or region.
  • Broadcasting gameplay (only when using Remote Play to control a PS4 console)
  • Playing a Blu-ray Disc™ or DVD
  • PS VR2 or PS VR mode
  • Playing music
  • Watching video services

Please note, depending on the game, some images may not be displayed while using Remote Play. In some cases, you may not be able to use Remote Play while multiple other features are in use.

Can’t sign in to PSN on PS Remote Play?

  1. Check the PSN status page. If you see any alerts, wait until the service is up and running, and then try again.
  1. Make sure that your device is connected to the internet.
  2. Restart the Remote Play app on your device.
  3. Restart your device and try again.
  4. If possible, reinstall the app on your device and try again.

Can’t start Remote Play on your device?

  1. Make sure that you're signed in to the same account on both your console and device.
  2. Check whether you’ve set up your console for Remote Play.
  3. Check for connectivity issues on your console and device.
  4. If you have antivirus software installed on your device, check whether it's blocking the Remote Play app.
  5. Sign out from the Remote Play app on your device and sign back in again.
  6. Restart the Remote Play app on your device and try again. If it still doesn’t work, reinstall the app.
  7. Deactivate your PlayStation console and reactivate it again.
  1. If you’re using a PC or Mac, try manually linking the device to your console.

Can’t connect a controller to your device? 

  1. Check whether your device is compatible with your controller.
  1. Reset your device and try again.
  2. Reset your controller.
  • If you’re trying to connect a DualSense wireless controller to your device, check whether it’s updated to the latest firmware.

Having connectivity issues on your console? 

  1. Go to Settings > Network > Connection Status.
  2. Select Test Internet Connection.

  •  Please note, the minimum required connection speed for Remote Play is 5Mbps for both upload and download.

Having connectivity issues on your device? 

  1. Restart your device.
  2. Disconnect the LAN cable from your console, and reconnect it again.
  3. Perform a network speed test on your device. 
  4. Other devices on your network might be using a large amount of bandwidth.
    Wait until they're idle before using Remote Play.
  1. Restart your device.
  2. Check whether your Wi-Fi is working with other devices.
    If you’re experiencing Wi-Fi issues, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for further support.
  3. Perform a network speed test on your device. 
  4. Pause any downloads running on other devices connected to your Wi-Fi.
  5. Disconnect any other devices connected to your Wi-Fi.
  6. Use a 5GHz Wi-Fi to connect your device to the internet. 
  7. On your PC or Mac, try using a wired connection if possible.
  • The minimum required connection speed for Remote Play is 5Mbps for both upload and download. For best performance, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 15 Mbps.
  • Remote Play uses UDP Port 8572 to connect to your console or mobile device.
    Try opening the port on your router. If you're not familiar with the router’s settings, speak to your ISP, router manufacturer, or mobile carrier for help.
  • If you can’t find your NAT Type, or if your network is using NAT Type 3, you may not be able to use Remote Play. To check or change which NAT Type your network uses, reach out to your ISP or mobile carrier.
  • On your PC, go to Settings and then select Information.
  • On your Mac, select Preferences.
  • On your mobile device, go to Settings and then select NAT Type.

Having issues with the PS Remote Play app on your device?

Make sure that the PS Remote Play app is updated to the latest version.

The anti-virus software on your device may be blocking Remote Play.
Try disabling the firewall settings on your antivirus software, or adding the app for Remote Play to your firewall's exceptions. For details, refer to the instructions provided by the antivirus software.

  1. Restart your PC and try again.
  2. Delete the PS Remote Play folder in your local AppData and reinstall the Remote Play app on your PC.
  3. Reinstalling the latest supported x86 version of Visual C++ on your PC may help resolve the issue.

  2. Reinstall the Remote Play app on your PC.
  3. You may need to install the latest graphics driver. Please refer to your graphics card manufacturer for the latest drivers and installation instructions.

Reinstall PS Remote Play on your device 

Uninstall the PS Remote Play app using the directions below, then reinstall it.

From the Control Panel, click Programs and Features, and then uninstall PS Remote Play.

Drag PS Remote Play from the Applications folder to the Trash. Then choose Finder > Empty Trash.

Tap and hold the Remote Play app, then select Uninstall or Delete.

Lower Remote Play resolution for PS4 Remote Play

You can change the Remote Play video quality when you connect the PS Remote Play app to a PS4 console.

  1. From the PS Remote Play app on your device, go to Settings > Video Quality for Remote Play.
  2. Select Resolution (Excluding PS4 Pro) and choose a resolution setting from 360p,540p or 720p.
