Transferring data between two PS4 systems

Transferring data between two PS4 systems

Learn how to transfer data from one PlayStation®4 system to another over a wired or wireless connection.

Before you start:

  • Transferring data from one PS4 system to another will delete any data from the PS4 system you are transferring the data to. The PS4 system you are transferring the data from will not be affected.
  • You will need to have the latest system software installed on both PS4 systems.

Data that can be migrated

  • All existing users and settings in your system.
  • Games and saved data.
  • Screenshots and video clips stored in your system.
Data that cannot be migrated
  • Saved data of users who have never signed in to PlayStation Network.
  • Trophy information that is not synced with PlayStation Network.
  • Any password data—for example, your PSN, Netflix or Amazon passwords. You will need to re-enter these on your new PS4 system when you sign in.

Transferring PS4 data

You will need one Ethernet (LAN) cable to transfer data over a wireless network.

  1. Connect the PS4 system you are transferring the data from to your wireless network and sign in to PSN with your account.

  2. Connect both PS4 systems together with an Ethernet cable.

  3. Connect the PS4 system you are transferring the data into to your TV. Connect to the same wireless network as the other PS4 system, and sign in to PSN with the same account.

  4. If it is the first time you are using this system, you will be prompted with the Transfer Data from Another PS4 option right after signing in with your account.

  5. If it's not the first time you are using the system, go to Settings > System > Transfer Data from Another PS4 and follow the on-screen instructions.

Do not turn off either PS4 system while transferring data. Doing this may damage your system.

  1. Connect the PS4 system you are transferring the data from to your router using an Ethernet (LAN) cable and sign in to PSN with your account.

  2. Connect the PS4 system you are transferring the data into to your TV. Connect to the same router as the other PS4 system via an Ethernet cable, and sign in to PSN with the same account.

  3. If it is the first time you are using this system, you will be prompted with the Transfer Data from Another PS4 option right after signing in with your account.

  4. If it's not the first time you are using the system, go to Settings > System > Transfer Data from Another PS4 and follow the on-screen instructions.

Do not turn off either PS4 system while transferring data. Doing this may damage your system.

The connection is not working or is interrupted

  • Check the PlayStation Network status.

If the PlayStation Network is having issues or maintenance is being performed, wait and try again.

  • Restart your Internet connection.

Turn off the power on your modem or router and restart. If you are using a wireless connection, try switching to wired.

  • Delete data.

If your data transfer is interrupted in the middle of a transfer, try deleting as much unnecessary data and applications as possible. Reducing the amount of data transferred should improve the data transfer.
