Game Hub

Games have hubs on PS5. Each game’s hub collects everything related to that game together, from activities, to community broadcasts, to new game content. It’s a constantly updated space that will evolve and adapt throughout the game’s lifecycle.

Activities

Game creators can build their PS5 games so you can jump straight into specific missions, modes, quests, and more straight from the console's Control Centre.

Control Centre

Quickly access frequently used system features, game content, and activities without leaving your gameplay. Simply press the PS button while playing to see the Control Centre overlay.

Game recommendations

Find your next adventure with recommendations based on the types of games you like2.

Challenges

Take on special in-game challenges in supported PS5 games, and share your results with friends on PS5 to see if they can do better. If your friend beats your high score or time, you will get notified and get a chance to beat them right back.

Community Game Help

Access tips and hints to assist you in supported PS5 games – Game Help is now available to all PS5 players. Get involved by watching helpful videos on-console or on PS App to help you progress in your gameplay; simply select Hints inside on the card of your current game and view tips for various objectives1.

Enjoy helping other players? Now your gameplay can become Game Help videos automatically – no gaming expertise or mastery needed. As you play supported games2, PlayStation captures moments that contain useful hints for other players.

If you choose to contribute3 to Community Game Help, your gameplay at specific in-game moments will be automatically captured, to show others successful strategies. Note that you won’t need to manually capture, edit or upload these videos; simply opt in and your video can be selected and published as part of Community Game Help4.

1 Account for PlayStation™Network and internet connection required.
2 There will be a limited number of titles supporting this feature at launch.
3 Contributing to Community Game Help is limited to adult accounts.
4 If you use a webcam, this footage will not be captured or uploaded; the same applies to any microphone activity, as well as Party chat.

PS5 Session Share

With PS5 Session Share you can seamlessly invite other PS5 players to join your multiplayer session through a shareable link.

If you just met new friends on your favourite social platform and would like to invite them to your gaming session, share a link from your PS5 console or PlayStation App to any social or messaging platform via your smartphone. The recipient can open the link and follow the onscreen prompts to join your gaming session* on PS5, even if you aren’t friends on PlayStation Network.

*All players joining a PS5 multiplayer session must have the game installed. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required for most PS5 multiplayer games. PS4 games and other backward-compatible titles are not supported.

Profile Share

Extend your player connections and share your profile online, via third party messaging apps or social media platforms. Easily add friends on PlayStation Network – even when you’re away from your PS5 console.

Share your PlayStation Network profile—including to those without a PSN account—using just a URL. Players with a PlayStation Network account can view and add your PSN profile using the PS App or a web browser.

This lets you have a continued online presence – accessible anytime, from the PS App or a web browser.

Welcome Hub

Customize your PS5 console’s Welcome hub with a variety of flexible widgets, letting you see information at a glance before every gaming session.

Use presets to change your layout quickly. Select from a variety of widgets, and arrange them according to preference. You can also change their size, expanding or shrinking your widgets to focus on your favorite features.

You can also customize your Welcome hub’s background. Choose from various designs - some include cool animated effects - or pick a screenshot from your Media Gallery.

PlayStation®App

Chat with friends, get the latest gaming news, and download games to your console from PlayStation Store by using PlayStation App. You can even manage your PS5 console storage remotely, so you’ll always be ready for your next gaming adventure.2

Game Base

Access a dedicated hangout space for you and other players with your account for PlayStation Network. Share content, plan play sessions, jump into games, or just catch up. You can even access some features on the web and on mobile devices with PlayStation App.

Group multiplayer initiation

Initiate multiplayer matches straight from a persistent Game Base party and auto-invite everyone1, no need to send individual invitations.

Share screen with Multitasking

Online players can view a party member's screen, and even play their own game while watching them at the same time.

Remote Play

Access games on your PS5 console3 by streaming them to another PS5 console, or your PS4 console, PC, and Apple iOS or Android phone.

External USB drive compatibility

PS5 consoles can store compatible PS4 and PS5 games to USB drives that support SuperSpeed USB4. That means you can save space on the internal Ultra-High Speed SSD, and save time by reinstalling PS5 games from the external USB drive, instead of redownloading them or installing from a disc.

When you’re ready to play a PS5 game that’s on an external USB drive, simply transfer the game back to the internal SSD via the Options Menu within the Library. You can play PS4 games directly from an external USB drive, or from the internal SSD.

PS5™ M.2 SSD Storage Expansion

Upgrade the storage capacity of your PS5™ console by installing a compatible M.2 solid state drive.

You can now play your PS5 and PS4™ games and media apps directly from the high-speed SSD expansion, which you can also use to store, download and manage this content.

Important: before installing a compatible M.2 solid state drive, you should review the minimum performance and size requirements here, and install the latest system software update to your PS5™ console.

3D Audio support for built-in TV speakers

Experience immersive virtual surround sound with 3D Audio support for your TV.

Tempest 3D AudioTech is accessible directly from your built-in TV speakers when you’re playing games and watching videos on your PS5 console.

Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)

You can enhance the visual performance of compatible PlayStation®5 games by enabling Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) on your PS5 console. This allows your PS5 console to sync the refresh rate of your display to the PS5 console’s graphical output on HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TVs and PC monitors. Results may vary depending on the TV you’re using and game you’re playing.

Gameplay in compatible PS5 games will feel smoother with VRR enabled, as scenes render seamlessly, and graphics look crisper – with frame pacing issues and screen tearing minimized.

You can also choose to apply VRR to PS5 games that are not officially compatible, which may improve video quality for some games. If enabling VRR results in any unexpected visual effects, you can turn it off at any time.

HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TV or PC monitor required. Results may vary depending on the TV you’re using and game you’re playing. If enabling VRR results in any unexpected visual effects, you can turn it off at any time.

Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)

Enjoy smooth gameplay with reduced lag on your PlayStation 5 console with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). With this feature, your PS5 console sends a signal to your TV when you’re playing, so you can get an even better gaming experience.

ALLM is only available on compatible TVs with HDMI 2.1 and might also be referred to as Game Mode in the TV’s settings. This feature won’t work when you’re using a Media App or watching TV, but your TV display should revert to its previous mode when you’re no longer gaming. You can turn ALLM off when Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is not enabled.

1440p HDMI Video Output

Experience 1440p output to compatible PC monitors and TVs.*

Enjoy the crisp visual performance of games that natively support 1440p resolution. If you’re playing a game with a higher native resolution (such as 4K), you may benefit from improved anti-aliasing through supersampling down to 1440p output. Even games that are not natively 1440p or higher resolution can benefit from upscaling through the PS5 console to that resolution.

To test whether your HDMI device is compatible with 1440p, select “Test 1440p Output” under “Screen and Video” options in your PS5 settings.

*1440p video output on PS5 requires a TV or PC monitor that supports 1440p/60Hz, or 1440p/60Hz and 120Hz.
