How to change PS VR2 outputs on PS5 consoles

Video outputs for PlayStation VR2 on PS5 consoles

What you see on the social screen (the image shown on your TV when you’re using PS VR2 with a PlayStation®5 console) changes when you put on or take off your headset.

When you're using a game or app that supports PS VR2, the display is shown through the headset and your TV.

  • The resolution shown by your headset can be up to 2K per eye.

  • Your TV resolution is shown in the Video Output menu.

When you use your PS VR2 and PS5® console to play a game or app that doesn’t support PS VR2, you see an image in cinematic mode.

  • The resolution shown by your headset can be up to 2K per eye.

  • Your connected TV screen turns black when the VR headset is put on. 

  • You can set 120 Hz or HDR video output.

How to set up 120hz video on your PS VR2 headset

Your PS VR2 and PS5 console can display 120 Hz video in cinematic mode through the headset. Your TV doesn’t need to support 120 Hz video for it to be displayed through your headset.
  1. Go to Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2 > Cinematic mode.
  2. Select Video Output for Cinematic Mode.
  3. Set 120 Hz output.

If you find 120 Hz output grayed out, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Screen and Video and change 120 Hz Output from Automatic to Off.
  2. Go to Accessories > PlayStation VR2 > Cinematic mode > Video Output.
    120Hz output for video on your VR headset should now be available.

How to set up HDR on your PS VR2 headset

Your PS VR2 and PS5 console can display HDR video in cinematic mode through the headset. Your TV doesn’t need to support HDR video for it to be displayed through your headset.
  1. Go to Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2 > Cinematic mode.
  2. Select Video Output for Cinematic Mode.
  3. Set HDR output.
