Find out how to set up and use PlayStation®App to send messages, make purchases and start remote downloads to your console.

How to download and install PlayStation App

  • Android users must have Android version 6.0 or above.
  • iOS users must have iOS version 12.2 or above.

After you’ve installed and opened PlayStation App, sign in to your account. If you don’t have an account, visit the guide below.

How to sign in on PS5 consoles using PlayStation App

Quickly sign in to PS5 consoles by scanning a QR code on the app.

  1. On the PlayStation App go to Settings > Sign in on PS5.
  1. The PS5 sign-in screen will show a QR code. Scan the code using PlayStation App or select Enter Code Manually.

How to link PS5 consoles and PS4 consoles to PlayStation App

  1. To link your PS5 console or your primary PS4 console, open PlayStation App, and then select Settings > Link Console to App.
  2. Follow on-screen instructions to link your console.

Linking your primary PS4 console to PlayStation App will allow you to start game downloads to your console from your mobile device. 

Linking your PS5 console allows you to start game downloads to your console, manage PS5 console storage, and launch PS5 games and compatible PS4 games from your mobile device.

Not seeing your console?

Make sure you’ve signed in on the console with the same account that you’re using on PlayStation App. To link your PS4 console, make sure it’s activated as your primary PS4 console.

How to purchase and download games using PlayStation App

To start a remote download from PlayStation App, your linked PS5 console or PS4 console must have Stay Connected to the Internet switched on and be in rest mode.

  1. Open PlayStation App and select PS Store
  2. Search for a title and select Add to Cart
  3. Confirm your purchase and payment method. 
  4. From the PlayStation App home screen, select Game Library Purchased
  5. Select the game and select Download. You will receive a notification when the download is complete.

How to manage PS5 console storage from PlayStation App

You can check your storage space and delete games from your PS5 console storage and USB extended storage using PlayStation App. Moving and copying games isn’t supported on PlayStation App.

  1. On PlayStation App, select Settings > Storage to reveal your available PS5 console storage and USB extended storage (if connected).

  2. Select a game from the list, and then select Delete 1 Game > Delete to clear storage space.

Please note, if you’ve installed an M.2 SSD on your PS5 console and set it as your default location for installed games and apps, you can choose to download games to the M.2 SSD from PlayStation App. If there isn’t enough storage space on your M.2 SSD, you can choose to delete games before the download starts.

How to launch games on your PS5 console from PlayStation App

Once a game has been downloaded to your linked PS5 console, you can start the game from your phone.

  1. From the PlayStation App home screen, select Game Library > Purchased

  2. Select the game, and then select Play on Console. Your game starts, so all you have to do is pick up the controller and play.

  • Your PS5 console must have Stay Connected to the Internet switched on and be in rest mode to launch games from PlayStation App.

If you install PS Remote Play on the same mobile device, you can start a Remote Play session right from PlayStation App for a smooth gaming experience. 

How to join a game on a PS5 console with PlayStation App

When you receive a game invitation on PlayStation App, you can launch the game on your linked PS5 console. Simply select the notification and select Join on Console

  • Your PS5 console must have Stay Connected to the Internet switched on and be in rest mode to join games from PlayStation App.

How to message and voice chat on PlayStation App

Select the Parties icon at the top of the screen, and then select the Create new party icon. Select a player or players to create a party. You can send text, stickers, voice recordings and images through PlayStation App.

To start a voice chat, select a party from the parties menu and select the Voice Chat icon to start chatting with party members.

  • Turn notifications on or off for each party by selecting the party name > … More > Turn Off Notifications. A mute icon is displayed on a party or group if notifications are turned off.
  • If you're the party owner, you can kick out a player from the party by selecting the player > Kick Out, and following the on-screen instructions.

How to use PS5 console Share Screen on PlayStation App

  1. To view a friend’s screen on PlayStation App, select Friends and then tap their online ID to open their profile.
  2. Select Request Share Screen.
  • When you receive a Share Screen invitation from a PS5 console on PlayStation App, you can watch what’s going on in your friend’s game in the voice chat room. 
  • Share Screen starts automatically when you are in the voice chat room where your friend starts Share Screen on a PS5 console. 
  • Select the Share Screen notification to start Share Screen when PlayStation App is running in the background. 
  • You can change video resolution and autoplay settings to change how Share Screen works on your device.

How to adjust PlayStation App settings and notifications

You can adjust your push notifications for gaming, social, media, and account from the PlayStation App settings menu. If you disable push notifications, you'll still be able to see your notifications in the notifications list from the PlayStation App Play screen.

  • Adjust the Autoplay Video setting to select when your videos will autoplay. 
  • Select Video Quality for Mobile Data to limit the resolution of some features if you want to reduce the amount of mobile data being used by PlayStation App.
