Until Dawn: Trophy tips

One trip to Blackwood Mountain is enough for most, but if you want to get every Clue, Totem and trophy from this cinematic horror you’ll need to steel yourself for a return visit.

If you’ve successfully played through Until Dawn’s terrifying, twist-filled story, you’ll know that the choices you made and the actions you took led you down a unique path. In fact, there are a total of 22 Butterfly Effect events that affect the fates of the game’s eight protagonists, leading to hundreds of possible combinations of who lives and dies during that one fateful night in Blackwood.

Many of Until Dawn’s trophies are designed with this in mind, rewarding multiple playthroughs and thorough exploration of the game’s environments. Some even challenge you to make difficult and uncomfortable choices.

Possible spoilers ahead—you have been warned…

Totem hunting

How do I get the An Omen? trophy in Until Dawn?

Hidden throughout each of Until Dawn’s chapters are Totems, small effigies that act as harbingers of fateful events.

The 2015 version of the game featured 30 totems divided across five types of prophecy: Death, Danger, Loss, Guidance and Fortune. Each Totem offers a vision of an event that might occur, giving you a chance to anticipate these incidents and take the necessary measures to avoid them—or ensure that they come true.

The enhanced version of Until Dawn introduces six new hidden Hunger Totems. Unlike the previous 30, these Totems provide a look at pivotal moments from the past.

Only by locating all 36 Totems will you unlock the ‘An Omen?’ trophy, so be sure to search each location thoroughly.

TIP: Certain Totems will remain in locations that are revisited in later chapters, offering an extra opportunity to discover them.

Follow the clues

Hints for key story trophies

Acts of bravery and betrayal

A number of trophies can only be earned by experiencing certain story outcomes. Be warned that pursuing some of these trophies will impact your ability to earn others, which means multiple playthroughs are required to earn that all-important platinum.

Talk to eM

Whatever you do in Chapter 6, don’t let Emily take the flare gun. Then, in Episode 8, Ashley should try to reassure Emily after reading the Stranger’s journal.

Nightmare on Ash Street

If Chris chooses not to turn the gun on himself in Chapter 6 and manages to survive the chase in Chapter 8, the events that follow will automatically unlock this trophy.

Only Others Left Alive

You can only get this if everyone except Matt and Jessica dies before dawn. A crucial moment in ensuring Jessica’s survival comes in Chapter 10 – when she and Matt hear a noise in the mines, stay hidden.

Saw That Coming

In Chapter 5, Mike can get caught up in a bear trap. Try to prize the trap open twice and then take the hard way out. Ouch.

The Psycho Path

There are three opportunities to get this. In Chapter 5, when Sam is first confronted by the Psycho, you have a fight-or-flight choice. Alternatively, if you find a baseball bat in Chapter 2, try hiding when the chase takes you to the basement. If you miss those two chances, Chapter 6 gives you a final chance if Ashley picks up the scissors found under the Lightbulb Catalogue in the basement, before the Psycho strikes again.

You Let The Wrong One In!

You’ll need to say goodbye to one of two characters to earn this trophy. As you investigate the sewers in Chapter 9, you’ll hear what appears to be Jessica’s voice. Make sure you not only follow the voice, but also leave no trapdoor unopened.
