How to check for updates on PS5 consoles and PS4 consoles

How to update games and applications on your PS5 console

When you start a game or app, it automatically updates to the newest version available.

  1. Highlight a game or app and press the options button.
  2. Select Check for Update.
    If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.

How to check the system software version on your PS5 console

  1. Go to Settings > System > System Software.
  2. Select Console Information.
    The system software version appears.
    You have the latest version installed if Up to date is shown under the system software version.

This menu also shows you your PS5® console name, IP Address and MAC Address.

Having issues updating games or apps?

If you’re unable to update an app or game on your PS5 console, please try the following.

  1. Test your internet connection by going to Settings > Network and then select Test Internet Connection.
    If you’re having internet issues, check the guide below for troubleshooting steps.
  1. Restart your PS5 console and try again.
  2. Make sure you’ve updated your PS5 console with the latest system software.
  1. Delete the game and reinstall it from your Game Library or game disc.
  1. Turn on your PS5 console in Safe Mode, and select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
  1. Test your internet connection by going to Settings > Network and then select Test Internet Connection.
