Connect

  1. Use the USB Type-C cable (A) provided with your PS VR2 system to connect the headset to the USB-C port (B) on the front of your PlayStation®5 console.
  1. Press the power button on your PS5™ console.

  2. Press the power button (C) on your PS VR2 headset.

  1. Make sure you have the necessary accessories for setup.

  1. Using the DualSense™ wireless controller included with your PS5 console, follow the on-screen instructions.

If it’s your first time using your PS VR2 Sense controllers, you need to pair them with your PS5™ console. Pair both the left and right controllers.

Please note that if your controller's battery is low, you'll need to charge both the left and right controllers after pairing.

  1. Turn on your PS5 console.

  2. Connect one of your PS VR2 Sense controllers to your PS5 console using the included USB cable.
    Pairing is completed.

  1. Press the PS button on your controller.
    The controller is assigned to the user who is currently logged in on your PS5 console.
  2. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to pair the other controller.
  • Remove the USB cable when using your PS VR2 Sense controller.
  • Your PS VR2 Sense controller can pair with only one PS5 console at a time. When you want to use your controller on another console, you need to pair it with that console.

Settings

To access VR Mode and play VR games, you first need to set a space (play area) where you can safely use PS VR2.

  1. Turn on your PlayStation®VR2 system, go to the home screen and select Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2.

  2. Select Set Play Area to reset the play area when you need to edit or set a temporary play area.

  • The boundaries of your play area appear when you approach them. If you leave your play area, your game is paused, and the screen switches so you can see your surroundings.
  • Play areas aren’t used when in cinematic mode.

Pressing the function button switches your VR headset to see-through view, where you can see your surroundings while wearing your VR headset.

You can also change the function button assignment from Settings.

  1. Turn on your PS VR2, go to the home screen, and select Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2.
  2. Select VR headset > Function Button Assignment.
    You can assign the function button to View Surroundings or to Mute Microphone.

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility.
  2. Select Controllers > Custom Button Assignments for PS VR2 Sense Controllers.
  3. Turn on Enable Custom Button Assignments, and then select Customize Button Assignments.
  4. Select the button you want to change, and then select a new function for that button. 
  5. Select Apply.

 

  • Only the user your PS VR2 is assigned to can change these settings.
  • When you turn on Switch the Left and Right Sticks, the functions of the left and right sticks switch with each other.
  • To be able to change these settings quickly, add Accessibility to the control center.

Technical information

  • PS VR2 is compatible with PlayStation®5 consoles.
  • PS VR2 is not compatible with PlayStation®4 consoles.

There is no compatibility between PlayStation® VR and PS VR2:

  • PS VR systems can't play PS VR2 games.
  • PS VR2 systems can't play PS VR content.

PS VR2 can display 120 Hz video in cinematic mode through the headset. Your TV doesn’t need to support 120 Hz video for it to be displayed through your headset. 

  1. Go to Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2 > Cinematic mode.
  2. Select Video Output for Cinematic Mode.
  3. Set 120 Hz output.

Wipe only with a soft, dry cloth, made specifically for cleaning lenses.

Do not use paper products such as paper towels or tissues unless specifically intended for cleaning lenses. Leaving water droplets or dirt on the lenses may cause deterioration or degradation.

It may take some time to become accustomed to VR images. When you first start playing VR games, it’s recommended that you use PS VR and PS VR2 for short periods of time.

  • Try playing games using the sitting play style at first. Move on to more dynamic movements once you’re comfortable with seated gaming.
  • Try to make sure your play-area is well-ventilated.
  • Slowly build up your time using the VR headset. This will give you a chance to get used to the new sensations of VR. Set a timer to remind yourself to take breaks.

  • Steam™
    Download this app for free from the Steam™ website and create an account.
  • SteamVR™
    Download this app for free from the Steam™ store. This app allows you to use your PS VR2 to play VR games available on the Steam™ store.
  • PlayStation®VR2 App
    Download this app for free from the Steam™ store. This app allows you to use PS VR2 with your PC. Use this app to change the play area and update the firmware for your PS VR2.

Connect

  1. Connect your PC adapter to your Windows PC's USB 3.0 Type-A port (A).
  1. Use a DisplayPort™ 1.4 cable (sold separately) (D) to connect your PC adapter (B) to your PC's DisplayPort™ port (C).
  1. Connect the supplied AC power cord (H) to the supplied AC adapter (G). Then, connect the AC adapter to the DC IN connector (F) on your PC adapter. Make all connections before plugging the AC power cord into an electrical outlet (I). Once you plug in your PC adapter, it turns on and its status indicator (E) will turn solid red.
  1. Connect your VR headset (included with PS VR2) (M) to your PC adapter's USB Type-C® port (L) and press the power button on your VR headset (J) to turn it on.

  1. Open PlayStation®VR2 App.
    Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup. Once you finish, you're ready to play VR games.

If it's your first time using your PS VR2 Sense controller on your PC, you need to pair it using Bluetooth®. If USB cables are connected to your controllers, disconnect them. Make sure to charge both the left and right controllers before pairing.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth® on your PC.
  2. On the left and right controllers, simultaneously press and hold the buttons described below until the respective status indicators (D) start to blink.
    Left controller: PS button (C) and create button (A)
    Right controller: PS button (C) and options button (B)
  1. Open your PC's Bluetooth® settings and select the option to add Bluetooth® devices.
    Your PC detects nearby Bluetooth® devices.
  2. Select your controllers from the list of detected devices to complete the pairing process.
    You need to pair both controllers individually.
  • Make sure to pair the controllers while their status indicators are blinking. If a controller's status indicator stops blinking before you're able to pair it, repeat steps 2 through 4 for that controller.
  • You can check your controllers' battery level in the SteamVR™ dashboard by pressing the PS button on your PS VR2 Sense controller.

When setting up PS VR2 on your PC for the first time, open PlayStation®VR2 App and follow these steps.

  1. Connect your headphones.
    Connect the stereo headphones to your VR headset. You can also use other supported audio devices, such as PULSE Explore™ wireless earbuds or headphones that use a 3.5 mm plug.
  2. Prepare your devices.
    Put your controllers down within easy reach and press the function button on the VR headset.
  3. Clear some space.
    Clear some space around you so that there’s nothing you’ll bump into or trip over in your play area.
  4. Adjust the brightness of your room.
    Turn on the lights in your room so that your VR headset can track your surroundings. Keep curtains closed to avoid direct sunlight.
  5. Put on the VR headset.
    Follow on-screen instructions to pull out the scope, release the headband and put on your VR headset. You can then tighten the headband and adjust the scope.
  1. Adjust the lenses.
    To make sure you can see the screen clearly, use the lens adjustment dial (A) to adjust the lens distance so that your eyes are positioned in the middle of the lenses. Press the function button when you are done.
  1. Put on the headphones.
    Put on the connected stereo headphones or other supported audio devices.
  2. Hold the controllers.
    Pick up your controllers and wear the straps securely on your wrists. Follow the on-screen instructions to learn about the controller features.
  1. Set the play area.
    Set an area you can safely play games in. Scan your room using the VR headset camera. You can also adjust the floor height.

How to use

  1. Set up PS VR2 on your PC.
  1. Press the PS button on your PlayStation VR2 Sense™ controller to open the SteamVR™ dashboard.
  2. Use your PS VR2 Sense controller to navigate your screen and press the L2 button or R2 button to select an item on your screen.
  • If your VR game isn't performing as expected, you can try lowering Render Resolution or turning off Motion Smoothing in your SteamVR™ settings.
  • To find out more about SteamVR™ and what VR games are available on Steam®, visit the Steam® website.

Open Steam™ on your Windows PC screen and select PlayStation®VR2 App. You can also open the app by pressing the PS button on your PS VR2 Sense controller, and from the SteamVR™ dashboard, selecting PlayStation VR2 App.

  • You don't need to open PlayStation®VR2 App each time you use PS VR2 with SteamVR™.

Displays play area settings, app data settings, health warnings, and more.

Displays the battery level of your PS VR2 Sense controller.

Displays the status of your devices.

Appears when there's a firmware update available.

You can set the direction you're facing in your VR headset as the front. Press and hold the options button (F) on the right PS VR2 Sense controller until your line of sight is reset.

To take a screenshot in your VR game, press the create button (G) on the left PS VR2 Sense controller.

  • You can also simultaneously press the PS button and the L2 button on the left controller to take a screenshot.
  • You can't take video clips using PS VR2 on PC.
  • The default location for your screenshots on your PC is:
    C:\Program files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[Steam user number]\760\remote\[App ID]\screenshots
  1. Press the PS button on your PlayStation VR2 Sense™ controller to open the SteamVR™ dashboard, and then select the PS VR2 icon.
  2. Select Go to Play Area Setup for PS VR2 > Play Area.
  3. Select the type of play area you want to use.
    Follow the on-screen instructions to change or edit the play area.
  • If you leave your play area, your screen doesn't automatically show you your surroundings. Either return to your play area or press the function button on your VR headset to activate the see-through view. 
  • If your game doesn't proceed as expected after resetting the play area, try clearing the play area data. To do this, in step 2, select Clear Play Area Data.

Settings

  1. Press the PS button on your PlayStation VR2 Sense™ controller to open the SteamVR™ dashboard.
  2. Do one of the following.
  • Select the PS VR2 icon.
    This lets you adjust screen brightness and controller vibration intensity.
  • Select the settings icon.
    This lets you change Render Resolution, Motion Smoothing, and more. You can also change controller bindings for your PS VR2 Sense controllers, which lets you change the functions of the buttons and sticks on your controllers. Some VR games require you to change the controller bindings, so make sure to change the controller bindings when you start the game or from these settings.

The Steam™ app’s default settings allow PlayStation VR2 App to automatically update. If you need to update the app manually, go to the PlayStation®VR2 App page on the Steam™ store and update the app.

  1. Open PlayStation®VR2 App on your Windows PC.
  2. From the app screen on your PC, select Update under the device that needs updating.
    When the update is complete, the device is labeled Up to date.
  3. Restart SteamVR™.

Additional information

The following PS VR2 features are not supported when using PS VR2 on a PC.

  • HDR output
  • PlayStation VR2 Sense™ controller haptic feedback*
  • PlayStation VR2 Sense controller adaptive triggers
  • VR headset feedback
  • VR headset eye tracking

*PS VR2 Sense controller supports basic controller vibration, which is a simple vibration function on the controller.

PS VR2 Sense controller troubleshooting

  1. Turn off your PlayStation®5 console.  
  2. Locate the small reset button on the back of the controller.  
  3. Use a pin or similar tool (not included) to press the reset button. 
  4. Connect the controller to your PS5™ console using the USB cable that came with your console, and press the PS button. 

PS VR2 on PC troubleshooting

  1. Check your connections. Unplug all cables and then reconnect them, following the guide below. Make sure you’re using a cable that complies with DisplayPort™ 1.4 or higher. 
  1. Check that your PC meets the minimum requirements for PS VR2.
  1. Launch SteamVR™ and go to SteamVR > Settings > Developer tab > Enable Direct Mode.
  2. If possible, try using a different USB port to connect your PS VR2. 
  3. Open PlayStation®VR2 App and check your connection. 
  4. Make sure you’re using the latest drivers for your graphics card.
    If you experience issues with the latest drivers, please try going back to an earlier version.
  1. Turn off your headset and PC. Once they're both turned off, turn on your PC and then turn on your headset. Then launch SteamVR™, and try again.
  1. Close Steam™.
  2. Launch the PlayStation VR2 App on your PC.
  3. Launch Steam™.
