You can copy saved data that is stored on the PlayStation 4 system to a USB storage device. You can also copy saved games to the cloud if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber.

1. Place the system upside-down on a flat surface and remove the HDD bay cover. Remove from the right side first.

You may see a sticker covering the HDD bay cover. It’s safe to remove this and it will not affect the warranty.

1. Remove the screw (1) and pull the HDD mounting bracket (2) to remove it.

1. Remove the four screws from the HDD mounting bracket.

1. Remove the HDD from the mounting bracket and insert the replacement.
2. Replace the screws; being careful not to over-tighten them.
3. Reinsert the HDD mounting bracket; refer to the image above to make sure you’re inserting it the right way up.
4. Replace the screw.

1. Re-attach the HDD cover.

1. Install the system software

After the HDD has been replaced, the system software must be reinstalled. Using a computer, save a system software update file for reinstallation to a USB storage device. (1GB free space)

1. Copy the backed up saved data to the PlayStation 4 system

You can copy saved data from a USB storage device to the PlayStation 4 system by performing the following steps.

• Connect a USB storage device to the system.
• Select Settings from the function screen.
• Select Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data on USB Storage Device > Copy to System Storage.
• Select a title.
• Press the X button to add a checkmark in the checkbox for the saved data you want to copy, and then select Copy.
• You must be signed in with the same account used when you first copied the saved data.
• If you backed up your saved games to the cloud using PlayStation Plus, you can safely restore them now.

You can copy saved data that is stored on the PlayStation 4 system to a USB storage device. You can also copy saved games to the cloud if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber.

1. Turn off the PlayStation 4 system
   
2. Unplug the power, HDMI, and any other cables from the back of your PlayStation 4 system.
3. Place the PlayStation 4 on a clean, flat surface in front of you, so the front of the system is on the left. (The PlayStation logo on the top of the PlayStation 4 should be on the right hand side).
4. Place your palms on the top panel and let your fingers rest on the far side of the system.

1. Apply moderate, even pressure near the seam with your palms, and using your fingers as leverage, slide the top panel away from you.  A click will be heard, and the panel will move about 7mm. Lift the panel off starting from the left side.

1. With the top panel removed, you'll see a screw with the PlayStation symbols on it.  Remove this by turning the screw anti-clockwise to remove the HDD.
2. Pull the HDD toward the front of the system to remove it.

1. Remove the four screws holding the HDD in the caddy.

1. Insert the replacement HDD into the caddy and replace the four screws.
2. Insert the caddy into the PlayStation 4 bay and replace the screw.

1. Replace the top panel. Place it over the exposed section of the PlayStation 4, about 7mm away from the seam. Now slide the panel towards the seam until it clicks into place.

1. Reconnect the HDMI, power, and any other cables that were disconnected in the first step.
2. Power on the PlayStation 4 to make sure everything is functioning properly.

After the HDD has been replaced, the system software must be reinstalled. Using a computer, save a system software update file for reinstallation to a USB storage device. (1GB free space)
